<span style="color:var(--secondary-color-bg)">Welcome to the Kids’Park team!&nbsp;</span>

Welcome to the Kids’Park team!

To ensure the safety of our kids, we ask every one of our volunteers to go through the following onboarding process:

  1. Fill out this Kids’ Park volunteer application form.
  2. We will check the references provided on that form.
  3. Provide a vulnerable sector check. If you don’t have one, we can give you a letter to get one for free.
  4. Read our safe church policy and complete our safe church quiz.
  5. Meet with Pastor Kate in person. She will send you an email to book a time to chat.

Once you’ve completed these five steps, we can get you on the schedule!

We’re so glad to have you on the team! We are always looking for new people with all sorts of gifts to serve in our ministry as it grows.

Kids'Park Team Roles

Kids'Park Teachers help connect kids with God and each other through learning and applying God's word. Teachers are responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment, following the classroom routine, delivering the lesson, and facilitating crafts or activities. For a detailed job description click here.

Teachers serve one Sunday a month in both the 9am and 11am services.

Teacher FAQ's

Do I need to follow the lesson exactly?

The lesson plan is there to make your life easier, you don't need to follow it word for word. We do ask that you emphasize the main scripture, the Big Truth or main point, the Gospel Connection, and the application each week.

Will I need to prepare craft supplies?

No. All crafts are prepared for you in advance. Teachers only need to prep their lesson and any extra activities if they want to include them.

Kids'Park Helpers help connect kids with God and each other by encouraging them to engage with the lesson and be kind to each other. Helpers are responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment, supporting the teacher by helping kids participate respectfully, and facilitating crafts or activities. For a detailed job description click here.

Helpers serve once a month in either the 9am or 11am service.

Helper FAQ's

If a child is disruptive, should I step in or let the teacher handle it?

In general, if you believe a child is not behaving up to their capabilities or in line with classroom expectations feel free to kindly redirect or correct their behaviour. Anything you do to help kids engage respectfully is a huge help to the whole class. You can check in with the teacher before the service so that you are both clear on how to navigate classroom management together.

Do helpers need to know the lesson ahead of time?

Yes, helpers do need to know the basics of the lesson ahead of time. Reading the main scripture and the big truth will prepare helpers to thoughtfully engage kids in discussions about that day's lesson both in support of the teacher during the lesson and during the crafts/activities afterwards. The main scripture and big truth are easily accessible in Breeze. You do not need to read through the whole lesson.

Kids'Park Hall Monitors welcome families before the service and ensure the safety of our kids throughout the morning. Hall Monitors are responsible for registering and orienting new families, checking in all kids, and upholding our Safe Church guide lines.  For a detailed job description click here.

Hall Monitors serve one Sunday a month in both the 9am and 11am services.

Hall Monitor FAQ's

What if there is a problem during the service and the Kids'Pastor is teaching and unavailable?

Hall Monitors are the primary problem solvers for Kids'Park on Sunday mornings. If there is an urgent need you can always grab another pastor or an elder from the main service to help you - they won't mind!

What if a new family comes and they're not in our system?

All new families need to fill out and sign our registration form. You then add them into our system, explain how the tags work, and offer to give them a tour of Kids'Park.

What if a child comes upstairs without a tag?

All kids must be checked in. The hall monitor is responsible for getting the child checked in and giving the parent tag to the parent.

Tips for Serving in Each Age Group

Informed by Teresa Roberts' book, Raising Disciples

Acorns kids perceive love through expressions such as warm smiles, laughter, and playing together. Demonstrate love through your words and actions. Tell them that God loves them too. Reading bible stories and praying with them helps to lay the foundation of their faith.

Help them know God

God is loving and powerful.

When you tell Acorns kids stories from the Bible, help them connect those stories to these characteristics of God.

Help them know their identity

God made me.

Jesus loves me.

I can help others.

I can share.

I can obey God.

Look for opportunities to encourage these beliefs during each part of the service.

Help them express their faith

We have a list of vocabulary words most Acorns kids will understand by the time they graduate from this age group.

Friend, helper, obey, prayer, Bible, God, Jesus, Love.

Teach kids the meaning of these words through your actions and your words.

Sprouts Kids grasp the significance of God’s stories by acknowledging the reality of God and the truth of God’s word. Create an environment where they are comfortable asking questions and sharing their thoughts and opinions. Empower them to make decisions to follow Christ and obey God’s commands.

Help them know God

God is good and he is kind. He is the one and only God. God is compassionate, faithful, and perfect.

Highlighting these characteristics of God when you talk through the bible story, or respond to the stories the kids tell you about their own lives will help them see God at work in their lives.

Help them know their identity

God created me.

God loves me no matter what.

I can be kind to others.

I can do what God wants.

God forgives me.

I can forgive others.

Jesus died for sinners like me.

Look for opportunities to encourage these beliefs during each part of the service.

Help them express their faith

A child's vocabulary explodes within this age group! They will start using these words before they know what they mean. Help them pronounce and understand these words in connection with their faith.

Help them know God

God is all-knowing.

God is everlasting.
